Dear Sir,
Re The Smells in Kingsteignton, Chudleigh and Chudleigh Knighton Area
I would like to register my concerns on the above problem and would appreciate a written acknowledgement.
I would also like answer in writing to the following questions:-
How many tonnes of animal carcasses have been dumped?
Are the carcassess both foot & mouth and BSE infected.?
How many tonnes of carcasses are still to be dumped?
Is the disinfectant used harmful to humans?
Is leachate being discharged into our normal sewage system?
Has the leachate been analysed?
What pathogens and irritants are in the leachate
Does this leachate flow through residential areas?
Can you supply a map of the sewage route from Sandygate to Buckland?
Can the leachate be 100% treated by Buckland Sewage works?
How are the leachates being treated at the Sewage works?
What odours are being emitted from site?
What pathogens and irritants are in the odours ?
What are the health risks to bathers on local beaches ?
What are the health risks to users of the Teign Estuary?
What are the medium/long term health risks?
Are Children and the Elderly more susceptible?
Are there standards of measurement for odours?
What are the possible side effects?
Is the disposal of infected carcasses in this way a new science?
What methods are in place to prevent contamination of the surrounding area by animals such as seagulls, rats, badgers etc?
Are there any circumstances where untreated sewage or leachate is discharged directly into the Teign or Sea.
Are there plans to make this area the major toxic waste disposal site for the UK using the large open cast mines leftover from the clay industry?
Will higher rain fall associated with global climate changes increase leachate problems and make the current situation worse?
Yours faithfully
